Anna Duczmal-Mróz
Anna Duczmal-Mróz is a conductor who, following her debut at the Bad Kissingen Winterzauber Festival, was hailed by the German press as “a sensational conductor”, praised for her technical mastery, precision, focus and ability to build and sustain emotional tension.
Since 1 September 2024, she has served as Music Director and CEO of the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio, with which she has been associated as a conductor since 2009. Founded in 1968 by her mother, the internationally renowned conductor Agnieszka Duczmal, the orchestra performs under her direction around the world and regularly records Polish music for Polish Radio.
Anna Duczmal-Mróz has appeared in leading concert halls and at prestigious festivals throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas, conducting in Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Japan, Mexico and South America, among other countries. She has collaborated with Poland’s leading orchestras, including the Warsaw Philharmonic, Sinfonia Varsovia and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR). In 2022, she made her US debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic. Among the distinguished artists with whom she has collaborated are Wynton Marsalis, Avi Avital, Daniel Hope, Piotr Paleczny and Konstanty Andrzej Kulka.
A committed advocate of Polish music, she created the world’s first five-CD cycle comprising all of Mieczysław Weinberg’s chamber symphonies, released by CPO and DUX. The recordings received international critical acclaim and earned three Fryderyk Award nominations, a nomination for the 2020 International Classical Music Awards (ICMA), and Scherzo magazine’s “Exceptional” award.
Her discography also includes recordings with Capella Bydgostiensis and the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio. As Music Director, she prepared the premieres of Maciej Małecki’s opera Awantura w Recco, czyli drzewko wolności, with a libretto by Wojciech Młynarski, at Opera Nova, and Mendelssohn’s ballet A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Baltic Opera.
She is also actively involved in music education, having led conducting masterclasses in Poland and South America, served on the juries of international conducting competitions, and co-organised the Paderewski Piano Academy for nine years.
Anna Duczmal-Mróz began her musical career as a violinist. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover, where her conducting talent was discovered by Maestro Eiji Oue. From 2001 to 2005, she studied conducting under his guidance, graduating with distinction after conducting the NDR Radiophilharmonie in her graduation concert. She subsequently served as Assistant Conductor to Eiji Oue at the NDR Radiophilharmonie and to Antoni Wit at the Warsaw Philharmonic. She has also been a multiple recipient of scholarships awarded by Poland’s Minister of Culture and National Heritage.
