Zhixin Zhang has played the violin since the age of five. At the age of ten, he entered the middle school affiliated with the China Central Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Professor Lv Xu, after placing first in the entrance examinations.
At the age of 13, he travelled to Europe for the first time, attending various academies and studying with musicians including Sebastian Bohren, members of the Stradivari Quartet, Paul Roczek, Qian Zhou, Barbara Doll, Antje Weithaas, and Ning Feng.
In 2017, he was concertmaster of the China Central Conservatory of Music Middle School Orchestra. In the same year, he founded a string quartet with which he performed at the NCPA (National Centre for the Performing Arts in China).
Since 2019, he has pursued a Bachelor Klassik degree with Professor Xiaoming Wang at the Kalaidos Musikhochschule in Zürich.
He has taken part in various international competitions and music festivals, including the Brahms Competition (2015), the Tibor Varga Violin Competition (2019), and the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition (2021). He was a semi-finalist at the 2023 Montreal International Violin Competition in Canada.
